Simple Server has been replaced!
The iFolder team has been able to Open Source the entirety of the Enterprise Server. Please begin using the new Enterprise Server packages for your OSS server needs. This page will only be kept around for legacy puposes.
What is Simple Server
Simple Server is an open source component of Simias which provides a basic iFolder Server to host iFolders.
What is the difference between Simple Server and Enterprise Server?
This list is not meant to describe all of the features contained in the iFolder Enterprise Server, but more to show the major differences between it and Simple Server.
Open Source: Simple Server is open source licensed under the GPL (http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html). Enterprise Server is a commercial product sold by Novell as part of the Open Enterprise Server (http://www.novell.com/products/openenterpriseserver).
Apache: Enterprise Server runs behind apache using the apache module mod_mono. Simple Server has it's own embedded http server (which by the way doesn't currently support SSL). You are not going to get the same performance or load handling using Simple Server.
LDAP/eDirectory: Enterprise Server integrates with Novell's eDirectory (LDAP) so iFolder accounts are synced with LDAP/eDirectory accounts. Simple Server uses a simple XML file for user account creation and authentication.
Administration: Enterprise Server integrates into Novell's management console (iManager) to create policies that control what types of files can be
pushed and backed up on the server. Inside Novell's iManager, administrators can manage iFolder users, iFolders, iFolder Policies, and more. Simple Server has no administration functionality built in. Users and credentials are stored in an XML file which must be manually edited.
Backup: Enterprise Server integrates into Novell's backup solutions so the data (and meta data) can be backed up from the simias store.
Installation: Enterprise Server integrates into Yast for setup and
configuration. Simple Server must be hand configured.

Cual es la diferencia entre el Simple Server y el Enterprise Server?
Esta lista no esta hecha para describir todas las características contenidas en el Enterprise Server de iFolder, solo las diferencias principales entre el Enterprise Server y el Simple Server.
Open Source: Simple Server es open source licenciado bajo laGPL (http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html). Enterprise Server es un producto comercial vendido por Novell como parte del Open Enterprise Server (http://www.novell.com/products/openenterpriseserver).
Apache: Enterprise Server corre detras de apache usando el módulo mod_mono. Simple Server posee su propio servidor http interconstruido (que por cierto actualmente no soporta SSL). No tendrá el mismo performance o manejo de carga utilizando Simple Server.
LDAP/eDirectory: Enterprise Server se integra con Novell eDirectory (LDAP) asi las cuentas de iFolder son sincronizadas con cuentas LDAP/eDirectory. Simple Server utiliza un archivo XML para la creacion y autentificación de usuarios.
Administración: Enterprise Server se integra dentro de la consola de administración de Novell (iManager) para crear políticas que controlan que tipo de archivos pueden ser colocados y respaldados en el servidor. Dentro de iManager, los administradores pueden gestionar usuarios, iFolder, políticas y más. Simple Server no tiene funcionalidad de administración interconstruída. Usuarios y credenciales están almacenadas en un archivo XML el cual debe ser editado manualmente.
Backup: Enterprise Server se integra dentro de soluciones de respaldo de Novell así los datos (y metadatos) pueden ser respaldados desde el almacenamiento simias.
Installación: Enterprise Server se integra dentro de Yast para la configuración. Simple Server debe ser configurado a mano.
